Subject: Elephant Nose sick! Please help!

Question
My elephant nose got some kind of slime coat on his head. Yesterday he was fine. What kind of disease is this? It's not ich for sure. I went to a few pet shops, but nobody could clearly tell me what kind of medicine should I use, since they're extremely sensitive to any meds. Finally, I got "Ick out sensitive" by Wardley.
Please let me know what else could I do.
I have an established 29gl tank with 4 barbs, 1 elephant nose and 1 pleco. Same fish for many months, nothing changed, just the quality of water got better.

Answer
Hi Lena;

Avoid adding medication, he may not be sick at all. Sometimes Elephant Noses develop a hazy look to their heads or lose color when their territory is challenged. Has the decor changed in the tank? Have you moved any rocks or anything? Plecos can sometimes aggravate elephants at night and try to bully them too. Is he eating? If you want to send me a photo of him, as clear as possible, send it to;
