Subject: Chilid died
Question i have the tank set up for like almost a year. it is a 55 gallon tank. the filter is a marineland filter and i also have a sponge filter with the air hose that goes in it. i don't no my ph or nitrite, or ammonia levels. just did a water change which i do about twice a month i take out like a bit more the 50% of the water i have 9 chilids and a pleco after i did this water change i added salt like always while filled the tank after i filled it like ten min later one of them died i don't no why i was hoping that you might have in site into this. thank u. also wat would be the best temp to keep my tank at.
Answer Hi Sina;
The fish probably died from shock. A water change of 50% or more is a lot of water to replace all at once. It can really freak them out. It is easier on them to replace 25% every week. Also be sure the new water is the same temperature and use a water conditioner every time too.
Proper water temperature for your fish depends on what type of cichlids you have. Below is a link to a web page of different types of cichlids. Find yours and click on the name. It will give you information about the temperature and a lot more;
