Subject: Gold Fish
Question We had a 10gallon tank and change to 20gallon, since then goldfish had a fin rot and recently we added a yellow carp then the next day the big gold fish (white color) lost his eyes. Now the no eyes fish is still in the fish tank and we kept the carp in different tank.
Can we still keep the no eyes fish in the tank? Can that yellow carp stay in the same tank? We have like 15gold fish with 2 janitor fish.
Please help us and reply soon.
Answer Hello Cherry -
Are the 15 goldfish, 2 algae eaters, and the golden carp all in the same 20 gallon tank? If so, that is way too many fish to keep in one area! You're going to need to get rid of some of your fish, move them around, or buy a larger fish tank.
A 20 gallon tank can only hold five 2" long goldfish, and the 10 gallon could hold maybe three 2" long goldfish. You could put one algae eater in each tank.
If the goldfish are 1" long, you could keep ten fish in the 20-gallon and put the other five in the 10-gallon. Either way, the yellow carp is way too large and aggressive to be in the same tank as the goldfish. He would do best in a pond, but you could try raising him in a 55 gallon tank. It's hard to say for sure how much room he'll need without knowing how long he is, but they grow to be very large fish.
(If the yellow carp in less than 6" long, you could keep him in the 20 gallon tank with one algae eater, but no goldfish.)
Hope this helps,
