Question
QUESTION: My goldfish has kept her eggs inside for a while. two years later she has spread them upon my tank. they are all in the plants. How long does it take for them to develop?...How do i know that my male goldfish fertilized them?
Thank You.

Karina

ANSWER: Hello K -

If you are certain you have a male and female fish and they were in the same tank at the time of the spawing, you can be pretty certain some of the eggs are fertilized. To double check, remove the eggs to a breeding basket or separate container, and look at them after a few days. Solid white eggs are unfertilized, and clear see-through eggs are fertilized.

Hope this helps,

QUESTION: thanks for all your help. i have another question. My babies hatched anf there are about 38 living fish. how long do i wait until i put them in my tank with all my other grown fish?

Answer
Hello Karina -

You'll want to wait until they are bigger than the mouthes of the adult goldfish, otherwise the adults mat eat the young. Try to watch for your adult fish to yawn, to get an idea of how big they can open their mouthes, and judge the size of the fry accordingly.

I don't have any experience raising goldfish fry, but be prepared to feed them a lot of food. :)

Hope this helps,
