Question
Hi Tom. I have become aware that one of my goldfish has mouth rot. I am ok with what to do now to try & stop this. My question is that I have 3 other fish in my tank. Would it be best to seperate the fish with mouth rot from the other 3 or would it be best just to leave him in place with the others?

Answer
Hi Michelle,

The bacteria that causes mouth rot is closely linked to Aeromonas Hydrophilia which makes it extremely contagious. However, although the spore is abundant in water it only takes hold of weak fish.

Providing your fish are strong and healthy they should be able to resist attack. Although, I would move the affected fish into a hospital tank just to be safe.

Tom
