Fish - black moor

Expert: Tom Lee - 11/7/2009

Question
I have had a black moor for about 6month now I put a paradise fish in my tank on friday, and I have noticed that my moors eyes are all white as if the scales are coming off, is the new fish attacking it? there are 2 smaller ones and they are fine.

Answer
Hi Sarah,

Paradise fish, particularly males, tend to be extremely territoral. I'd put money on the fact he's attacking your Black Moor. Paradise tend to be targets for bullying themselves off of other fish due to their long, flowing fins. However, Goldfish are completely passive and tend not to stick up for themselves.

You need to make a decision, one of them has to go. Alternatively you could move the Paradise fish into another tank, he won't really take to any other fish although they tend to leave armoured catfish (ie, Plecs) alone.

Many Thanks,

Tom
