Question
Hi,
thought I'd note to you that the apt. building I live in is HUGE and it has plumbing issues and sewage smells around sometimes...I'm just thinking about the water quality...I live in San Diego, Ca. and I've been reading up as much as possible about the water quality here, it seems so-so, but mixed with this building's particular problems, I just wonder why the ammonia shot up so abruptly, she had no leftover food .hmmmmm...I hope it's ok I had to do an emergency water change and I couldn't use the tap...she is acting fine, chasing and eating the bubbles that form from new water...she loves doing that...she seems happy as a lark...

Answer
Hi Liane,
The problem is your tap water.  Ask your Pet Store Manager if they are having problems with their water, if they live nearby.  You could also call the "water inspection unit" in your town, or the water company.  Old pipes should be changed. especially if you are smelling sewage.  It's not fit for drinking.  You have no choice now than to use bottled water.  As long as she seems  fine, she should be okay.  If she is eating, then she is happy.
