About Stacey
Expertise
I will answer all questions as best I can, and if I am unsure of the answer, I will be willing to do research. I can answer questions about tetras, especially neon tetras. I can also answer questions on common diseases and parasites and how to treat them, and tank setups, maintenance, and cleaning. I can provide info. on cichlids (including breeding), goldfish, raising and breeding fancy guppies, and feeding your fish. If I don’t know the answer to your question, I will research and tell you my findings.

Experience
I am 18 years old, and have owned at least one fish tank since I was in elementary school. I now have a tank dedicated to raising and breeding fancy guppies, with much success. I have another tank with goldfish, which I’ve had the longest, and a larger tank with convict cichlid cichlids, which I have successfully bred, jewel cichlids, and an oscar. I’ve also raised and bred other cichlids as well. I used to have two other tanks, one with angel fish, and the other with tetras, which I recently got rid of. I’ve raised other fish such as catfish and gouramis along the way too. Since I have had fish so long I know much about diseases, and parasites, and how to treat them. At the time i am writing this now i have: 1 Oscar 1 Goby 2 Jewel Cichlids 2 betta 6 goldfish 1 Kuhli loach 2 african dwarf frogs 1 pleco 10 guppies 20 adult convict cichlids 5 young convict cichlids

Fish - goldfish frys

Question
Hi Stacey, my name is Jade and I have a question about my newly hatched gold fish fry’s (I think that’s how you spell fry’s) and what they should eat.  I have been collecting the eggs from my pond each year I have lived at my house and kept the baby's until they were large enough to not be eaten by the other gold fish- or anything else that might eat them except the one bull frog- in which I can't help- so that they have a chance to survive, since we are losing about three gold fish a year.  Each year, I keep them in a plastic container ( like a juice bottle that is see through and thoroughly clean) and try to maintain the water temperature at about 70-80 degrees. When they hatch, I usually put them in a larger and suiting tank so they have plenty of room.  From all of my hours of internet research, I think I am doing everything right.  But I haven’t been able to find what exactly they should eat- from when they first hatch to when I release them ( just about when they start getting their color)  In past years, I just give them pond moss, and as they grow, some soggy fish pellets.  Am I feeding them the right things?  Or is there something else I should be feeding them?  Thanks for your time, Jade.

Answer
Hello Jade. If feeding them the pond moss has worked in the past, you could continue doing so. Live brine shrimp can also be good to feed your goldfish fry. Live daphnia serves two purposes, it can help keep your tank clean, and it provides another food source for your fry. If your have any further questions feel free to ask. Good Luck!!
