Question Hi, I've had my betta fish for well over a year now. He is dark red in color, and a few months ago, I noticed his tail was turning a light colored blue. Petco, said this was normal, he's probably just getting old. Well now, he has this black bubble looking thing growing from his tail. He still swims, eats, and acts like he's happy. I'm just concerned about his tail. Can you help?
Thanks
Answer Hi Shani,
A bump or lump on a fish is very difficult to diagnose. It could be a tumor which could be cancerous, or non cancerous. Most tumors are non cancerous, and Bettas live a long time with them. There is nothing you can do but keep him comfortable, and his water very clean. The fact that he is eating, and looks happy is a good sign. Never attempt to squeeze this bubble as it could also be a boil. If it is, it will erupt in time, but never squeeze it, as this would cause death, and pain. Fish get bumps, lumps, and boils like we do, so for now I wouldn't worry about it.
