I will answer all questions as best I can, and if I am unsure of the answer, I will be willing to do research. I can answer questions about tetras, especially neon tetras. I can also answer questions on common diseases and parasites and how to treat them, and tank setups, maintenance, and cleaning. I can provide info. on cichlids (including breeding), goldfish, raising and breeding fancy guppies, and feeding your fish. If I don’t know the answer to your question, I will research and tell you my findings.
Experience I am 16 years old, but I have owned at least one fish tank since I was in elementary school. I now have a tank dedicated to raising and breeding fancy guppies, with much success. I have another tank with goldfish, which I’ve had the longest, and a larger tank with convict cichlid cichlids, which I have successfully bred, jewel cichlids, and an oscar. I’ve also raised and bred other cichlids as well. I used to have two other tanks, one with angel fish, and the other with tetras, which I recently got rid of. I’ve raised other fish such as catfish and gouramis along the way too. Since I have had fish so long I know much about diseases, and parasites, and how to treat them.

Question Hello. Just one week ago, I bought some fish for my tank (22 gallon), two of this fish were the Oranda Red cap. I am worried about one of them, this fish stays all day long in the upper part of the tank, it seems that he does not want to interact with the other fish; the second red cap fish seems to be doing well, he swims and interacts with the other fish, and swims all over the tank. Is my fish sick? What can I do to make my fish happy and to interact with the other fish?
Answer Hey Gigi! There are multiple causes of this. The most likely one is stress. Since you only bought him a week ago, he's probably stressed from the change. Also, make sure that if you have a heater, you turn it down or off. Goldfish do much better in room temp. water. Goldfish can for a month without eating because of stress. Make sure your water quality is good, and make 20% water changes every week, or sooner. Goldfish are very messy fish. As a precaution i would medicate the tank with MelaFix and try feeding him peas. Keep watch for anything unusual, like parasites, or cottony growths. But I'm sure that its just floating there because of stress. let him adjust for a while, and he should start being more active.
