AboutShorty Expertise ~my dad got mad and took away my internet. dont kno when ill have it back. sorry...~
I will answer all questions as best I can, and if I am unsure of the answer, I will be willing to do research. I can answer questions about tetras, especially neon tetras. I can also answer questions on common diseases and parasites and how to treat them, and tank setups, maintenance, and cleaning. I can provide info. on cichlids (including breeding), goldfish, raising and breeding fancy guppies, and feeding your fish. If I don’t know the answer to your question, I will research and tell you my findings.
Experience I am 16 years old, but I have owned at least one fish tank since I was in elementary school. I now have a tank dedicated to raising and breeding fancy guppies, with much success. I have another tank with goldfish, which I’ve had the longest, and a larger tank with convict cichlid cichlids, which I have successfully bred, jewel cichlids, and an oscar. I’ve also raised and bred other cichlids as well. I used to have two other tanks, one with angel fish, and the other with tetras, which I recently got rid of. I’ve raised other fish such as catfish and gouramis along the way too. Since I have had fish so long I know much about diseases, and parasites, and how to treat them.
At the time i am writing this now i have:
1 Oscar
2 Jewel Cichlids
1 betta
6 goldfish
1 Kuhli loach
1 Rainbow shark
1 pleco
25 guppies
6 adult convict cichlids
30 young convict cichlids
Organizations I am hoping to volunteer at Hawk Creek.
Education/Credentials im only 16.... but I've been on the honor role my whole life(averages in the mid 90's), and im taking college courses in highschool.

Question Hi Stacey,
I am hoping for some help concerning my one year old Black Moor.
For approximately the last six weeks he has been ill.
At first he lay at the bottom of his bowl but within a few days he floated to the top. Sometimes he was completely upside down.No matter how hard he tried he could not swim and stay at the bottom.
We have taken him to the vet twice and each time he has been prescribed antibiotic baths (1-2hrs per night) for 15 days. He improves after the first couple of baths, but then reverts back to his old behavior.
Currently, he spends the majority of his time lying on his side at the top of the bowl, but can make it to the bottom if he so wishes. He has developed a red patch with a white fur on one side.
I believe the patch on his side is a fungal infection and am wondering what is the best way to treat this?
The other symptoms sound like dropsey, but I am praying they are just linked to his fungal infection. He hasn't got the 'pine cone' scales associated with dropsey and has a healthy appetite.
I have been putting aquarium salt in his bowl everytime I do a water change (50% once a week) and will be getting a gentle filter ASAP.
I have begun feeding him only every second day and (after hearing that it can help) have regularly been feeding him shelled peas too.
He lives in bottled water so I haven't been putting additives (besides the salt) in it.
Is there anything else I can try?
Any help would be much appreciated!
Regards,
Deb
Answer Hi deb! unfortunately this definitely seems like dropsey. i had a goldfish with dropsy get a red batch with the white fur. dropsy is usually always fatal, and it looks like u have already taking it to the vet. and did what u could. your doing everything that can be done, i would also suggest medicating it with something called MelaFix. swim bladder disease is ruled out by the sore on its body, and feeding it peas would help. u may want to add more carbon to the filter, but thats about all i can tell you. if you need anything else let me know! good luck!
