Expertise
~my dad got mad and took away my internet. dont kno when ill have it back. sorry...~ I will answer all questions as best I can, and if I am unsure of the answer, I will be willing to do research. I can answer questions about tetras, especially neon tetras. I can also answer questions on common diseases and parasites and how to treat them, and tank setups, maintenance, and cleaning. I can provide info. on cichlids (including breeding), goldfish, raising and breeding fancy guppies, and feeding your fish. If I don’t know the answer to your question, I will research and tell you my findings.

Experience
I am 16 years old, but I have owned at least one fish tank since I was in elementary school. I now have a tank dedicated to raising and breeding fancy guppies, with much success. I have another tank with goldfish, which I’ve had the longest, and a larger tank with convict cichlid cichlids, which I have successfully bred, jewel cichlids, and an oscar. I’ve also raised and bred other cichlids as well. I used to have two other tanks, one with angel fish, and the other with tetras, which I recently got rid of. I’ve raised other fish such as catfish and gouramis along the way too. Since I have had fish so long I know much about diseases, and parasites, and how to treat them. At the time i am writing this now i have: 1 Oscar 2 Jewel Cichlids 1 betta 6 goldfish 1 Kuhli loach 1 Rainbow shark 1 pleco 25 guppies 6 adult convict cichlids 30 young convict cichlids

Organizations
I am hoping to volunteer at Hawk Creek.

Education/Credentials

Question
QUESTION: Hi! I have had my Fish Flamz for a good portion of a time, and he is a sweet fishie, but when My mom got Topaz the girl, he was a bully, and he was divebombing her, poor little Topaz, but I figured out why, we have a small tank, but we are gonna get a filter marbles and fake plants for the big one on Teusday <----- Personal info

Ok BIG question. Is Topaz gonna lay eggs? She is always at the bottom, and she always moves and is in a clear, no marbled zone, and she breaths heavily, and sometimes, Flamz goes down and like comforts her(OHH so cute:):):) I just really wanna know is she pregnant? Why is she at the  bottom? Is a big tank good for her? And what is the color of the sky? LOL little joke( Optional to answer or just a simple lol it ok:)

ANSWER: k, well it would be nice to know what kind of fish you're talkin about, but im guessing some species of cichlid, right? (if not let me know and then i can give you more info.) cichlids dont get pregnant they lay eggs, so its possible that she laid eggs.  You should know soon, because the eggs only take 48-72 hours to hatch. if she laid eggs, that would be why she is at the bottom, shes protecting them. oh, and i have always found that w/ any fish, usually the bigger the tank, the better.  If my guess about what kind of fish was wrong, let me know! ^_^ good luck!

QUESTION: I'm so sorry, I forgot the breed, you know how 12 years old like to tell stories lol, I am:) but they are Beta, and I hope she didn't lay eggs, if so BAD cause I cleaned out the bowl yesterday, it was murky, ty for your reply btw:)

ANSWER: i understand... im only 16! XD so you have bettas??  in that case, bettas make "nests" at the top of the bowl or tank w/ bubbles, and when there r eggs, the male places the eggs in the nest of bubbles.  they can lay up to 500 eggs! after the eggs have been laid, the female should be removed b/cuz the male cares for and protects the eggs, even from the female betta...  the male wont move from the nest oi their is one... hope that helps! ;p

QUESTION: STACEY!!!My big fish tank has like mucus at the bottom, what is that? Is it suppose to be there?

Answer
its not suppose to be there.. its most likely a bacterial infection, possibly fungus. i would quarantine and medicate him, and i would suggest using melafix. make sure the water is clean by doin a 20% water change every 3 days if in a tank, or cleaning his bowl every other day. u may also want to put a small amount of aquarium salt in the water too. hope this help!
