Question Earlier today I bought a beta fish. By the time i returned home and fixed the bowl I was going to put it in, it had died. This was within an hour of purchase. I was wondering if my dad could have gave it a heart attack or something to cause it to die because he came by and when he left he slammed the door and the fish (still alive to the best of my knowledge) was not sitting far away, or did I just buy a bad fish?
Answer Hello Shannon-
Was the fish in a cup or a bag when you took it home?
Did the pet store employee use tap water from the sink to put the fish in?
Did the fish get left in a car or in an area where the water temperature could have dropped drastically?
It's odd for a fish to die so quickly without anything out of the ordinary happening to it. Loud sounds can stress a fish to the point of death, but I don't know if a slamming door would be that traumatic. Chances are, the pet store person who bagged the fish used sink water, which can kill a fish in less than 30 minutes. Sadly, most employees don't know this and end up killing the fish they sell. :(
Sorry for the loss of your little guy... :(
