Question
Hi,

I just purchased a new black moore about 5cm long. I put him in a newly operating 40L tank. Although he looks healthy, he is not eating and has not eaten in 4 days (has not eaten once since bringing him home). Instead he spends most of his time at the bottom of tank and occasionally swims to the middle of the tank but rarely goes to the surface. I have tested the ammonia, nitrate, and pH levels and all are fine. Due to it being a new tank I have been doing a 25% water change once every two days.

I am starting to get concerned as he has not eaten in so long. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

James

Answer
Hello James-

What temperature is the water in the tank? It seems to me that the water may be too cold and that's what's making your fish so lethargic. Also, make sure you are using a water conditioner (like Tetrasafe) each time you add new water to the tank.

Feel free to write back with temperature measurements and I can help you more. Also, be sure there is enough dissolved oxygen in the tank by using a filter or an air pump/bubbler.

Hope this helps,
-Amber Worman
