Fish & Seafood - Seafood Chowder

Expert: Greg Shreenan - 11/29/2008

Question
I made a Seafood chowder with salmon, shrimp, scallops, muscles, artificial crab, oysters and other non-seafood ingredients.  It was pretty good, but it's a huge pot, and only 2 people eating it.  How long can I store in the fridge before it is unsafe to eat.  I am generally a 3 day rule of thumb person, but when it comes to seafood I'm slightly inexperienced.  Thanks!

Answer
Hi Jennifer, I hope today finds you and yours healthy and happy!

Generally speaking leftover seafood is like leftover Chinese food. It is not very appealing.  I will keep whatever I might eat the next day in the fridge but any longer than that I would freeze it.  It would be safe to eat after 3 days because everything is cooked, but chances are you won't want to eat it.

I hope I was of some help.  Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to answer your question.

Have a very nice day.

Your friend, the fish guy,

Greg
