Fish & Seafood - stuffed shrimp

Expert: Greg Shreenan - 12/23/2008

Question
Can I stuff and freeze raw shrimp?

Answer
Hi Michelle, I am sorry that I could not get back to you sooner.  The Holidays are crazy.

To answer your question, it depends.  If the shrimp is fresh then yes you can stuff and freeze.  If you are thawing shrimp to stuff it and refreeze it then no.

You can certainly try it.  Most likely it will be very mushy and not taste very good.

If you are using fresh shrimp then stuff it and freeze it.  Once it is frozen take it out and dip it in cold water and put it back in the freezer.  This will add an extra coating of ice to help protect it.

Hope this helps.

Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Your friend, the fish guy,

Greg
