Fish & Seafood - Mahi Mahi

Expert: Greg Shreenan - 9/10/2008

Question
What is the flavor and texture of Mahi Mahi?    Thanks for your reply     J

Answer
Hi Joanne,

Thanks for allowing me to answer your question.  The flavor is mild and not too fishy as long as it is fresh.  The texture is flaky like a seabass. The meat looks opaque to brown when you buy it but cooks up white and flaky. The fillets are excellent for the grill. I like to marinate mahi in some teriyaki sauce along with an ounce or two of pineapple juice.

If you do decide to purchase mahi fillets I recommend going to a fish restaurant that sells fish or a fish market that specializes in fish.  Most grocery store fish that I have seen is not what I would eat.  I have seen nice fish at the Organic stores here in California like Henry's etc.

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to answer your excellent question.

I hope the day finds you healthy and well!

Your friend, the fish guy,

Greg
