Fishing - old flyfishing reel

Expert: Robert Vermillion - 10/28/2009

Question
I have a old fly reel and cant seem to find anything on it on the back it reads wolverine no 1695 Kalamazoo tackle co. model d   and on the front. wolverine silent automatic  I have the instructions that came with it and the box, (3 flies, and a leader) were in box

Answer
Larry,

I am sorry for the delay in answering. Kalamazoo was a fishing tackle company from Kalamazoo Michigan. They carried a line of low to medium quality fishing tackle.

Your reel dates from the 1930s to 1940s. They sell today for around $20. Note, values on collectables are down with the economy. Your reel had the original box and instructions..so would be worth holding on to for now.

Kalamazoo was later aborbed by Shakespeare fishing tackle company.

Bob

If you want more history, search on "Orca Fishing Reels" then go to the Reel Talk section of the website. This is a great site dedicated to reels.
