Fishing - Metal Telescopic Fly Rod

Expert: Robert Vermillion - 11/6/2009

Question
I have my Grandfathers 3 section telescopic fly rod,the line goes through the rod. There is no name on it but there is a tiny stamp in the metal where the rod connects to the wooden grip ,it says;PAT'D MAR 8 87.The reel with it is a Shakespeare Au Sable No.1864 Model GD.I looked everywhere with a jewelers eye-piece...nothing.

Answer
Kevin,

I am not sure of your question. The telescoping steel rods generate low collector interest. They were made from the late 1800s thru 1940s until fiberglass came into play. $5-30 depending on condition..usually the paint is scratched up.

The main collector interest is in custom, american split bamboo fly rods.

The reel was made in 1947 ( Model GD, G=4, D=7). These are faily common and run $5-10.

regards

Bob
