Question
I have been a mono line user for many years and now I am interested in braided line (spider wire for example) I like to hunt for big cats. Any way I bought a 50 lb. test and performed a scale test to test my knots.the line kept breaking off at around 15-22 lbs. I will not name the brand but it was not cheap. Do I have a bad roll or is this test unusefull? I preformed the same test on my mono line and broke off at around the line rating. I am planning on flathead fishing tomorrow and if I need to get a better line, it would be nice to know. Thank you and have a great day...

Answer
Hi Robert,

It is very puzzling that it broke that low.  I cant explain that one.  Generally that super line breaks about 20% above where it is rated (or more).  I find it nearly impossible to break some that heavier stuff that we use for musky.

I think you are right, that it may be a bad spool.  Unless it is breaking at the knot.  Then it could be a bad knot for the material.

Good cat fishing!

Marc
