Question I have located a painted burgundy, cane fishing rod, approx 1920 era. I located it amongst many other antiques from my great grandfathers storage that got lost a long time ago an forgotten about. We are now cleaning it out and came upon this rod. I asked a friend who fishes alot and is avidly a fan of antiques. he stated it appeared to be a 1920 era, thats how I came up with the date. It is only a 2 piece pole, but isnt fancy. Its definitely even hand made, but does have copper color metal to connect the pole ends. Would this be of any value, or something to just remember him by?
Answer Sunshine,
From your brief description I would say hang it on the wall to remember great grandfather.
No major maker of rods painted their rods.
Japanese did paint rods. Was great grandfather in the military? You could buy Japanese rod for only a couple bucks from 1946 to 1970.
If you want more e-mail a pictures to macsrods@yahoo.com and I can confirm if it is Japanese and not valuable.
Luck,
Mac
