Fishing - value of old fishing rods

Expert: Marc Wisniewski - 7/3/2009

Question
I have a shakespeare 2 piece spinning rod in original tube and bag no. 1432-L (1957) and a 2 piece shakespeare Presidential fly rod  in opriginal tube and bag no. FY-920-7'0" EEE (1967).  Could you give me some idea of the value of these rods?

Answer
Hi Doug,

Unfortunately, these aren't very highly sought after by collectors so they aren't worth much money.  They show up on e-Bay and fetch about $20-$40.

The real expert on this would be Joe Douglas on this site. Let him take a shot at it.  He may have more insight on this than I do.

Good fishing,

Marc
