Question
I have metal telescoping fly rod that was given to me from a neighbor. Under the reel it says hawco guaranteed . The reel is a   Edwards mfg. Co.  no 30. Can you tell me anything about how old and if it has any value. I looked at an article on line and it seems that the pole is rare. Any feedback would be appreciated. The neighbor was 96 when it was given to me over 10  years ago. Thanks

Answer
Larry,

Most of the collector interest is in split bamboo fly rods, especially American hand made rods. The telescoping rods were sold at low cost, high volume and therefore don't generate much interest. Hawco was the trademark of HA Whittemore, Boston MA. Your rod is pre-WII vintage. $10-20 range.

The reel is also fairly common, $5-10 range.
