Question
Hi, I acquired my grandfathers vintage fly rod. It says True Temper and has R05 inside a fish logo.  The reel says Precision Martin 63.  Can you tell me anything about its age? It is in fairly good condition with just some loose thread on one part of the rod.  The reel has some rust.  Thanks for your consideration! Cathy

Answer
American Fork and Hoe changed its name to True Temper in 1949. They made steel rods until the mid 1950s when fiberglass became more economical to make. (I am not sure if your rod is steel or fiberglass).

The reel was heavily produced in the 1970.

Both the reel and rod were high volume lower cost items, low collector interest.
