Fishing - Rod suggestions

Question
My questions are regarding rod and reel selections.  I want to get my girlfriend a rod and reel for her birthday in June.  I was currious what I should be looking for.  We mainly just do trout fishing in Northern California(Feather River, Lake Oroville, etc).  Also, I want a decent salmon rod.  I'm not a big-time fisherman, so please keep the answers fairly simple.  Also, price is a consideration (I'm a poor, starving college student).

Answer
Zebco makes some good light rods with reels for trout in small waters.. they work well on bluegill, smallmouth and other small stream fish. Not extremely costly.
As for the Salmon rod, if cost is a factor look at the Ugly Stick line of rods. They are a bit soft, but STRONG and can pull in a NICE salmon. I use them for Muskie, and for crankbaits for larger fish.
You can go with a spinning reel or baitcaster model.. depending on what you want to use.
Try this link for the Zebco model I had in mind...

This link for the Ugly Stick

You dont have to buy them here.. but these models are what I would buy in your situation.
