I'm an avid spanish mackerel fisherman, so to add onto Boris' answer, get yourself a few Gotcha' plugs, a couple clarkspoons, and some monofilament 30lb test line. Spanish are fast moving, agressive fish. They have exceptional eyesight and can usually spot wire leaders and braided line. Just tie a swivel to the end of your line and add about two foot of mono leader line to the other end. When you tie the leader to the spoon or plug, use a loop knot to give it a more realistic bait fish quality. To fish, just cast and reel quickly with a fast, sharp, "twitching" motion to entice the spanish. Once they hit, which you will know if it happens, just set the hook and have fun reelin' em' in. -Jonmicah

I have fished Florida salt water for over 50 years and am the author of "Fish Florida: Saltwater." My area of expertise is primarily South Florida, but I am pretty knowledgeable about the rest of the State. And this extends to deep sea, surf, inlet, flats, fly, spin, and good old plugging tackle.
