Expertise
I can answer any question about Fleetwood Mac, members of Fleetwood Mac, songs, and other assorted band history. I am knowledgeable of most members of the band, including the Rumours-era formation (Buckingham, Nicks, J. McVie, C. McVie, and Fleetwood), as well as the earlier formations (1967-1974 line-ups). If I do not know an answer, I will either find an answer for you or direct you to someone or some material that may better be able to assist you.

Experience
I have read anything I can get my hands on about the band. I own every album and have heard many unofficial, unreleased recordings. I have listened to/watched interviews. I have researched inaccuracies in books and interviews to try to find a more accurate account of the history of the band. Further, I tend to backup my thoughts with quotes, where available and appropriate.

Question
hello, i need some help.  i have so many stevie nicks demos and outtakes of her songs, and i am trying to catergorixe them according to date.  I was wondering if i could get a list of dates some of these demos and outtakes were recorded, especially, forsaken love, and the demo of if you ever did beleive

Answer
Hi John,

Categorizing Stevie demos and outtakes is quite a task.  I praise you on your effort.

First and foremost, this will be difficult for a lot of her songs.  As Stevie has stated in interviews, a lot of the demos and outtakes fans now have were somehow released from tapes that were "stolen" from her personal collection and never intended for the public (obviously).  She's actually quite upset about this.  I believe she speaks about it during her VH1 "Behind the Music" appearance.  Anyway, because of this incident, the dates of the tapes either are unknown, guestimated, assumed, or lost.

There are a few sites with years.  One site that was around a few years back had listings of EVERYTHING ever!!  I have it saved on my old computer (which barely works).  As soon as I get the harddrive copied, I'd be more than happy to post a copy for you if it's still floating around on there.  I did a search for the site but couldn't find it.  I'll keep looking, too.

In the meantime, your best bet for finding dates is to check bootleg trading sites.  These are usually the most accurate as bootleggers will spend the time to research dates or have gotten dates from other bootleggers.  Here are just a couple:  http://members.tripod.com/battle_of_the_dragon/pages/stevienicks.htm and http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/Cafe/8153/audios.html.  The dates for things are mostly live stuff.

For the two songs you speficially mentioned: Forsaken Love and If You Ever Did Believe:  If You Ever Did Believe originated circa 1977 or 1978 for sure.  The first released recording was done by Louise Goffin (Stevie on backup).  In the early demos, you can hear that her voice is young and soft, Rumours-era-esque.

Forsaken Love (Mistaken Love) was also written around the same time (1978).  It was about Lindsey and is speculated to be about their break-up.  The imagery is similar to that in Planets of the Universe (No Light), which was originally demoed in that time period.  Some of the versions might have been recorded slightly later, which explains the change in her voice (it's deeper in, say, the version posted here on youtube: http://youtube.com/watch?v=XIjtcYpTd9k&feature=related/ than in other, obviously earlier versions).

I'll keep looking for that list.  It really was amazing.  If I find it, I'll post it here for you.

ETA: I just found the list. Here you go!! http://www.geocities.com/the3birdsofrhiannon/discographies/sndemo.html
Forsaken Love is under Mistaken Love.  Neither song you mentioned has a date, but I really do believe they're both circa 1978.  I'll keep looking for other references to back up my claim.

Hope this helps!!
