We see where errors in choice of product, improper installation, and improper maintenance lead to complaints being registered and we are then called upon to inspect those products and issue certified reports indicating from where those complaint issues eminate. Flooring and Carpeting - Cleaning white haze on newly installed tile

Expert: John Michaels - 10/12/2008

Question
A friend and I recently started a post construction cleaning company.  We have several jobs, most with newly installed tile that needs to be cleaned.  What is the best way to get up the white haze that covers the tile.  It seems no matter how many times you mop you just cannot get up the white haze. Also, do you recommend a solution to get the white stains plaster leaves on the tile during construction?

Answer
Hi Terry;  There is no 'magic bullet'.  In today's world, all floor covering manufacturers are in the throes of producing 'green' products, friendly to our environment.  The correct maintenance will vary between manufacturers, so you must find out the name of the manufacturer of the specific tiles you wish to properly maintain and obtain their specific published maintenance information to address your questions.  My suggestion would be to contact that manufacturer and speak to their technical services dept. to obtain the proper information.  You should be very honest with them and tell them what you have tried.  What you have tried may not be proper, and may have left residues or negative chemical reactions that must be addressed before you try proper cleaning agents.  Don't rely on hearsay suggestions.  Today's products are vastly different than those made just 1 or 2 years ago, so get the correct information from the correct source to protect you and your investment.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact me.

Cordially,

John Michaels
