Flooring and Carpeting - LAMINATE WOOD FLOORING

Expert: Chris - 10/8/2008

Question
I WILL BE INSTALLING NEW LAMINATE WOOD FLOORING IN MY HOME THIS WEEKEND.CAN YOU GIVE ME ANY POINTERS ON HOW TO LAY THE FLOORING IN DOORWAYS.I WANT THE FLOORING UNDER THE JAMBS BUT I SEE A POTENTAL PROBLEM IN THAT YOU HAVE TO LIFT ONE BOARD IN ORDER TO GET THEM TO LOCK TOGETHER.BY THE WAY,THE LAMINATE IS STOPPING AT THE CENTER LINE OF THE DOORWAY AND I WILL BE GOING INTO THE BATHROOM WITH CERAMIC TILE.

Answer
David ... When you get to that last fill piece on the wall with the door , start in the doorway first and control the doorway ....rather than let the wood dictate what you will do if you had started from the end / beginning wall.
If it is possible start in the doorway and work left and right of this area. but get the doorway done first.

Always try to use 2 pieces in the doorways... and even if you have to cut the lock mechanism off ...not the tongue and groove per say ... just the lock on the butt joints and part of the length... ...you glue it with TITE BOND II and tape it with blue painters tape to hold it while it sets up for eight hours ... or overnight. Wipe the excess glue off with a damp rag at the time of glue up and tapping together. Dry it with a rag and tape.

Do you plan to undercut your door casing and frames with a jamb saw?

See if you can rent this unit ...or buy the hand (manual)unit.

I like the 820 model but the 555 will do the work too. At the bottom of the page is the hand saw.  If you need more clarification please contact me again .
