Question
Hello,

We are trying to install a cross stitch berber carpet however the rows are not running straight. When using the row runner tool, it gives an extremely crooked line.(ie won't give a row at all because it keeps snagging other loops) We have tried using a straight edge and finding the row from the back and cutting that way, however when doing this it leaves what would resemble v's of carpet loops. I need to get this cut straight so that it can be seemed. Any suggestions?

Answer
Yes Raylene, OMG ... Listen .. what are you using for a row runner...to separate the rows from the top?  This loop obviously if it is leaving V's as you say ... just needs to be offset 1/4" to 1/2" with the seamed on piece to interlock the edges, Like a puzzle. If you are cutting from the back ... you are really getting close to the loop.here's some trade tricks...

Typical from the top of the carpet

Take the card board tube from the roll and break the carpet over the top of the the tube.. right where you want to run your row finder tool. Use an old dull screwdriver to trace your row first...or my Mexican friends use a plastic bic pen with the ink filler removed ... these guys have all kinds of tricks.. just weave it in and out try to be more patient and really work it to death until you get a smooth even pass.... it will only run the length ... did you know that??? If you have a cross seam it will not work at all. At this point it is mandatory you use a straight edge.

Do use latex on your seams.....materials are cheap compared to repairs. Here are some loop pile cutters made especially for berber..and row running tools..

Best of luck to you... if any of my suggestions don't work out ... try calling the manufacture and asking for technical services ....they may have something I don't know about.

Thanks for asking ,
Chris
