Question We just bought a new house and have tile in it. I have heard different opinions if I should seal the grout or not. What do you think, and do you do the whole tile and grout or just the grout. We do have dogs. I also don't want the grout to get any darker than it is now.
Thank you for your help.
Answer Hi Peggy; If it is a new house, you shouldn't have a problem finding out the name of the manufacturer of the tile. Contact that manufacturer and obtain the maintenance manual for your particular tile, and, that manufacturer should have a website that will list a contact number. Call that number and ask for their technical services dept. Ask what type of sealers are proper to use for your tiles. Also, the grout manufacturer should be contacted to ask the same questions. Don't rely on hearsay or information from people who suggest things. Get the proper information from the manufactureres of your specific tile and grout to protect your investment. In today's world, floor covering manufacturers and floor covering sundry (grout, cleaning agents, adhesives, mortars, etc.), are all in the throes of making 'green' products. Because of a totally different product make-up of today's products, which are vastly different from those just made 1 or 2 years ago, you should get the correct information from those specific manufacturers. If you have trouble finding out the name of the manufacturers, please get back to me.
Cordially,
John Michaels
