Question

"Hi Dave, I am installing tile for the first time and all is going well so far but I do have two questions, 1) I am tiling my basement with 16" tiles I have ended up with the home support post going to be right in the middle of a tile. What's the best way to fit the tile around the post?  Anything I do is going to look a little awkward compared to the rest of the tile. and 2) I have centered the tile in the room but I have a powder room off the main room should I re-center the tile in the powder room since it's a seperate room or continue the pattern from the main room into the powder room even though I will have a full tile a one wall of the powder room and only 6 inches on the opposite wall of the powder room?  Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanx

Doug"

Answer
If you are using a snap cutter for your tile, it will almost cut a perfect line to match back up after the break. You will use a diamond saw to cut out the column section.  It will look super tight.  As for your bathroom, you do have the choice under the door to transition in direction or size, but a better job is to continue the pattern.
