Flooring and Carpeting - acid staining

Expert: Harvey Chichester - 10/11/2009

Question
When using lambswool applicator to apply sealer and wax after acid staining, how do you keep it from showing the "lint" when you use it the first time?  Also, how do you keep the sealer and wax from making little bubbles?  Is there anything you can do to get rid of the bubbles if they are already dried?

Answer
While there are lint free lambswool applicators you usually need to brush them with your palm or brush to remove lint.  Bubbles are usually put in the product with stirring or dipping.  If you pour on floor after letting it stand in pail for a while after mixing you can avoid some bubbles.  You can also mop the acid stain with soda water to help stop chemical action as acid reacts with cement causing gas.  Be carefully not to change the look of your stain.  If dried a light screening with 100 grit and a rotary scrubber will shave off imperfections.  Then coat again.

Best of luck
