Flooring and Carpeting - remove clear seal

Expert: Bill Hohmann - 10/22/2009

Question
how do you remove solvent base clear seal on a decorative floor .cant not use xlene are anyhting with smell this is a lobby in hotel that is open .

Answer
Anything that will strip it will have some sort of odor. It's just a matter of how bad.

Your best bet is to try and strip it in the middle of the night then, and perhaps even then just a small area each time to minimize the odor.

Chances are this is a solution acrylic, which will dissolve in any aromatic solvent.  You could use a higher flash solvent than xylene.  You also might be able to use N-Methyl Pyrolidone mixed with water to minimize odor, and it should still strip it.
