Flooring and Carpeting - ceramic tile

Expert: Perry Vellenga - 11/7/2009

Question
i stripped the wax off the ceramic tile because it was peeling. now it has no gloss at all and anytime you walk on it, it gets dirty. what can i put on it to make it shine again so it won't get dirty right after you mop it.

Answer
Thank you for your question LaKenya,

Well you have posed a mystery because I do not have a good frame of reference as to what kind of tile you have on your floor. If there is wax on the surface and no glazing beneath it then I am left with few options to consider. I will pretend that it is a Mexican Tile of some kind rather than an unpolished Stone of some kind. Either way the intended solution to attempt is to try a Sealer on the surface of the tile in order to lend a resistive barrier to the surface to help keep things clean. There of course are a multitude of products out there and you might be better off taking a picture of the tile you have and take a trip to your Local Tile Supply Store in order to receive a "visual" recommendation. I mention the Tile Supply guys as they are far more experienced and know their products better than you average "Home Improvement Center"..ok? It may take a few coats to build up enough protection to do the job but as I mentioned LaKenya the guys at the Tile Supply Store can help you make the right choice based on what you really have and what they can see. Ok...I hope this helps you with your project, feel free to return anytime...
