Flooring and Carpeting - radiant heated floors (1300 sq. ft.)

Expert: Chris - 11/2/2009

Question
Hi Chris, I need info on types of flooring that can be used on my concrete floor that has a radiant heating system built into it I currently have 12 inch tiles (not sure if its vinyl or asbestos. I would really like to replace it with bamboo since it is a sustainable product and from what I've seen (and heard) about Pergo Flooring, I'm not so sure I want that. thanks Carol

Answer
Carol,

Just about any floor can be installed over radiant heated floors...what is the max temps you set the thermostat on??

If you have vinyl / VCT tile now and it does no harm it certainly won't hurt a wood floor if it is floated over a standard underlayment. If you wish to install using a glue direct method I would definitely call the adhesive / wood manufacture to be sure that you aren't voiding any warranty.

Best Regards,

Chris
