Question I'm building a new construction home. I purchased a Robbins oak topaz 5" engineered plank (Armstrong product). Upstairs it was to be nailed down to a wood sub floor. During the "professional install" I was called to the house and told the floor was "defective and creaking" when walked on. The installer showed me several pieces of the flooring. Side to side it snapped together and held tight, but end to end, it wasn't snug. He has used Armstrong products in the past and assures me this must be a defective lot. In talking with the Armstrong rep, he says you must both "glue and nail" this 5" plank for it to work. The installer says he has never had to do that in the past. Who has the correct story???
Answer Donna,
I can't say who is right or wrong without seeing the floor. If the manufacturer says it is supposed to be nailed and glued than that is what I would have done to cover any warranty issues. If your contractor is positive that the flooring is defective than whoever purchased it needs to contact the supplier and have it taken care of. You can also ask your supplier how he recommends that the floor be installed. Keep me posted on what happens. Thanks for the questions. Good luck.
