Question HI:
Jim my wife wants ro replace the ceramic tile in the bathroom. I told her you have to take up the old tile first, that requires drilling, she said " no that the new ceramic tile can be installed over the old tile". I have know knowledge of tile work. Is she right?
Ed. THANKS
Answer Hi Ed,
Both of you are correct to a degree. Yes you can install ceramic tile over ceramic tile. This does create a problem with the floor, is it strong enough to support another layer of weight? Can you live with the additional height? How will you compensate for the added height and the plumbing issue? Any doors etc will have to be addressed.
The statement that it will require drilling leaves me in a fog. The new ceramic tile is cemented directly to the old ceramic tile. All of this cementing directly to one another is based on the old layer being in good condition!!
