Flooring and Carpeting - Nafco Grout removal

Expert: Chris - 6/29/2009

Question
We are in the process of building a new home, and recently had our kitchen floors installed.  The product we are using is called Adura.  The tile is a lighter color, and a dark grey grout color was used.  When the grout was installed the installer sponged off the majority of the grout, but left some of the grout down smeared on the tile for a few days before coming back and attempting to remove it.  Now there is a dark grey haze to all of the tiles with the exception of the corners where he actually removed it properly.  Is there any way to get rid of the haze?  Is this normal for this product?

Answer
Asa,

You can try a grout and haze remover available at home centers and or you can make a solution of vinegar and water yourself and try that. Increase the vinegar ratio to 100% if the problem persists.

Additional methods are to use a solution of 30% muriatic acid ( pool chemical)and 70% water. This would require rubber gloves and eye protection, just to be safe. Don't breathe the fumes directly. Have a fan to increase the air circulation.

At times a poultice of sugar and water also works to remove stains and stubborn spots.
