Question Will using wire lath on painted concrete work ? I propose shooting the lath to
the concrete then either thin set or a mud base. I have approximately 1.5 inches
to work with,I do not want to grind the old paint off, it's old enough to be lead
base.
Answer Hi Stanley,
In your situation I would prefer a thicker mud base. The use of the wire lath is necessary. Don't pin it to the floor as this will defeat the whole purpose. You will need to build a floor that "floats independently of the slab. That's why it should be thicker than what you are proposing. Then I would install a Ditra mat on the new mud slab!! www.schluter.com Their products are listed on that site.I have installed exterior mud beds in the northeast and they are still there doing the job it was created to do. I think it has been about 10 yrs ago. The trick is to NEVER cut a corner!!!
