Flooring and Carpeting - non sanded grout

Expert: Michael C. Malizia - 9/7/2009

Question
Does non sanded grout need to be mixed with a grout enhancer? Doing a back splash in a bathroom, above a sink countertop.
Or is water suffecient for the mix, and utilize sealer afterwards?

Answer
Hello and thank you for contacting The Grout Dye Company in NY.

Cement based grout's are only mixed to each individual manufacturers product directions as written on the bag.

They are either mixed with water or a Latex additive. Don't mix any "grout enhancer" or sealer into your grout unless the grout manufacturer approves it.

Their are many products out their that claim they are compatible with another product, but this doesn't mean that they are.

Contact the grout manufacturer and see if they agree. Adding anything to the grout could void the warrantee of the material.

Thank you;

Michael C. Malizia
