AboutDave Coil Expertise I can help. I have installed wood, laminates, tile, marble, ceramics, vinyl, and painted applications. I have done some stone work, but that is seldom used anymore.
Experience My first work was in flooring and interior designs. My first job... every room of the house was a different color of walls and carpet. It can work...
We installed a hardwood, Brazilian Koa in our kitchen/pantry/living room/hallway area back in 10/03. One small area of the planks cupped and buckled up. Our installers replace that area back in January 2004. Now about 10 inches over that area the planks are also buckling and the fixed area is also rebuckling. Moisture tests were done prior to installation and during the last installation to refix the problem. There is
not noted to be any moisture and this is not only baffling me as the homeowner, but the installer as well. My home floor is on concrete
slab in which the hardwood floor was glued to.
I did not see any moisture barrier materials used beside the adhesive glue from the slab to the hardwood plank.
We do not want to replace the floor again with hardwood if this problem going to repeat itself in two months. This is our first time using hardwood floors as a homeowner of 24 years and this is more frustrating than vinyl, carpets or tile flooring.
Should we hire a inspector or consultant to find out what the real problem is? Any insight in how to solve this hardwood floor problem is greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Liz
Answer After givng this much thought...is it a manufactured flooring or a true hardwood? Is it plank or multi section?
Is it an area of direct sunlight? The major causes for change in wood... water and solar. Unless it is a manufacturer defect. Nomally it is a water based adhesive..which when dried can shrink. Without being there....I can offer only possible causes....and it sounds as though they are trying to check those out at well. With out a CAUSE...I wouldnt know where else to chk.
