Presently work for a National Flooring Company in the Residential new construction arena that covers most interior design elements..Granite Slab tops/wood flooring both job finished and prefinished ect..
Question Hi...While cleaning our marble bathroom floors and walls we used an acid-based cleaneser (8% Hydrochloric Acid)After drying the Marble looked dusty, greysih and unpolished. Is there a way to restore the polish? Is there a product to buy? or does only require professional help?
Many thanks
Answer Thank you for your question Kelly,
I am curious Kelly...who suggested that you clean a Polished Marble material with "anything" that has as it's base ingredient Hyhdrochloric Acid? If you were to pour this solution onto the surface of cement it would bubble and foam and become green if left there long enough. What you have basically accomplished is you have to one degree or another "acid etched" your Marble. There are applied coatings that can put a "gloss" shine but it is only a coating It will not look nearly as good and the original polished sheen. It will have some protective properties to it and water will bead off the surface but again it will be a less satisfying visual correction. The floors can fairly easily be polished again but walls are another thing altogether because machinery used to restore Marble are heavy and cumbersome, not perfectly suited for verticle restoration. Look in your "Yellow Pages" under Marble Restoration and check credentials as this is not work for an inexperienced "wanna-be". Ok Kelly, I hope this helps you with your dilemma.
