Question Patrick,
My husband and I installed a prefinished Brazilian Cherry wood floor about a 1.5 year ago. I bought two beautiful area rugs to protect it and they've been on the floor about year. Today, I went to polish the floor with some Old English and found that the color beneath the rug was lighter than the surrounding exposed wood. (There's definitley a noticable line) I've been looking on the internet and everywhere it says that you have to periodically rotate your rugs to prevent this. I wish I would have know this before, but unfortunantely this is our first exprience with wood floors. Here are my questions:
1) If I remove the rugs, do you think the lighter color will eventually catch up to the exposed surrounding wood color or will there always be a noticable line?
2) If it's even possible the color will blend, about how long do you think this will take? The rooms are kind of dark b/c I keep the blinds drawn all year long. (We might open them when one of us gets home from work or weekends for a couple of hours)
3)The rugs were purchased for the dining room (to protect from table & chairs) and the foyer (high traffic). So removing them is a hassle. However, if the color blends ok this time, what would you suggest as a timeframe to remove them in the future to prevent this from happening again?
Thank you in advance.
Answer thousands upon thousands of people deal with this.
yes it will catch up.
how much time?
who knows. Maybe a couple weeks, perhaps a few days.
it has to be completely exposed to the light.
I am in Alaska, so it can take 24 hours in the summer :)
call a local wood place in your area. they are probably familiar with time frames where you are.
