About Dave Coil
Expertise
I can help. I have installed wood, laminates, tile, marble, ceramics, vinyl, and painted applications. I have done some stone work, but that is seldom used anymore.

Experience
My first work was in flooring and interior designs.   My first job... every room of the house was a different color of walls and carpet.   It can work...

Flooring and Carpeting - Threshholds and Laminate

Question
I re-read my question to you and I would like to try again to be a little clearer.

I bought 550 sf of Quick-Step 800 (U-845) laminate flooring to install myself. At the time of purchase, I was not made aware that I need a transition at each doorway. Since I bought the floor through mail order, I would have to wait another week before I get these extra T-joints. I was wondering if I would be OK without them (there's nothing on the warranty that states I have to have them). If I did end up needing them, could I use a router to install them?  You can see the general dimensions of area I am flooring at www.wantabag.com/floor.htm.

Thanks!
Loren

Answer
The primary need for transitions are the areas of change of elevations and from wood to tile/vinyl.  Carpet would "butt" against the laminate.  Home Depot and Lowe's and some lumber yards carry these transitions. ( no ordering)  These strips are NOT required...only offered to raise the price of goods sold and aid in the completion of the  project.
