Subject: bellawood cherry floor and the dog

Question
We purchased and installed a Bellawood Brazilian cherry floor in our kitchen and it looks great. However- or dog scratched the floor in various places. Hating the way the scratches looked, one day I applied Fuller floor wax over the floor (bottled stated it could be used over prefinished wood floor)and now it looks even worse because the dog's nails are scratching the wax layer. I would be thrilled to go back to my original problem of just scratches on a prefinished floor but I don't know how to get the wax off. I tried Bruce floor cleaner/stripper for urethane floors but it didn't come off. Would ammonia do?? And how do I get a finish back on??? I am really distressed about this as I didn't realize the floor was so touchy - Bob Villa must wear slippers around his house.
Thanks!!!

Answer
Jeanne,
This is a tough one.  The Bellawood has had lots of problems in the past so I'm not exactly sure what to do.  The company that makes that product in China does not use the same finishing method as most other hardwood flooring manufacturers.  I would have tried the Bruce floor cleaner as well.  You actually should be able to try about a 70-30 mix of ammonia and water.  That would be what I try next.  Good luck.
