Flooring and Carpeting - installing click together laminate on uneven hallway

Expert: Dave Coil - 3/14/2004

Question
when laying down click together 8 mil laminate in my hallway there was some dips and humps along the way and now the movement is taking it's toll and boards are coming apart. i need to take it apart and am wondering what to use to shim under the dips before re-laying it. should I use maybe some carpet underlay or what?

Answer
That is one of the many selling points of the laminate flooring....it floats..on the white insulated pad.   I repeatedly tell people...dont trust snap together installs.   I constantly tell people to glue the NON glue joint process.   Elmers white wood glue is a great product to install this stuff with.  It is water clean up while wet and dries clear.  I alse inform them to lay it tight as possible to walls.   This helps hold it in place.   The gap recommended is for installs of over 100' in length.
