AboutMike Turner Expertise Folk Music, particularly the Child Ballads and that great body of industrial and work-related songs which arose during the Industrial Revolution. I am well-versed in the history of the Folk Revival, and I have a particular interest in political and agit-prop songs, as well as in traditional Irish dance music. For ten years I was a committee member and resident singer/song-writer/musician with the Grey Cock Folk Club in Birmingham (the pre-eminent traditional club in the English midlands, which was founded by Charles Parker of `Radio Ballad` fame).
Question A BALLAD TYPE SONG ABOUT A GIRL NAMED ROSANNA WHO LEAVES A CHURCH THAT DOESN'T HAVE A PIANO IN ARKANSAS. SHE LEAVES, AND COMES BACK ONE DAY A CHANGED PERSON. THE CHORUS SAYS SING ROSANNA,SING ROSANNA, SING ROSANNA TO THE KING OF KINGS. CAN YOU GET ME THE LYRICS TO THE SONG? DON'T EVEN KNOW WHO SANG IT. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP. HOPPY
Answer Hi Hoppy,
I must assume your 'question' is an attempt at levity.
To quote from the one Google hit that I found when making doubly sure of my instincts :-
'...Rosanna age 3 singing at a pre school carol concert in a very loud voice
"Sing Rosanna , Sing Rosanna, Sing Rosanna to the king of kings"...'
That, AFAIK, is the only situation where such words are likely to be sung.
If you believe otherwise, please provide me with a lot more information, to back up your assertion that this is a song which has been given serious currency. Perhaps you recall *where* and *when* you heard it?
