Food Engineering/Manufacturing - nutritional value on cookie packaging?

Question
I notice that in the stores brand cookies have nutritional value , but yet if you go to the counters or bakery section the cookies will be in some form of container with no info on it. If i was to try to market a family cookie would i have to have nutritional packaging ?    thank you

Answer
I am not a lawyer, but I believe the nutritional labeling requirement is federal and applies to food sold in interstate commerce. Food sold locally, as in a bakery or in-store deli, is probably exempt. In your case, it probably depends on how you want to market. Nutritional labeling can be a marketing advantage and is moving into other areas, such as restaurants, so you might look into it. You can develop the information by calculation or by analysis.
