I will kindly like to know if there is other gums similar to Tragacanth gum and that can be use for the same purpose.

ANSWER: Hello Delmar

There are several gums that are available for food applications. The selection depends on the product and what functional property of the gum will contribute to the product. Gums could be thickening agents, could be binders and could be volume builders. Unless I know what your product is and what are you going to use gum for in that product it is hard to recommend any gum.

The following are the most commonly used gums in food industry.

Carboxymethyl cellulose…
Alginic acid
Xanthan gum
Gum Arabic

QUESTION: Mr Jim
Thank you very much for your time.
I'm trying to produce a commercial fondant Recipe and I find that Tragacanth Gum is very costly, therefore i was wondering if i can substituted it with other gums.
One of the purpose of Tragacanth Gum in fondant, is to help harden the product.
